I carry it with my everywhere. This is my first Moleskine and I love it.
The smaller pocket sized soft covers are nice but this size did not work out so well for me. I think I prefer the hardcover over this one. Also, the cover next to the spine bubbled up a little after about a week of use. Compared to the hard cover version this is ok. I got the soft cover because I thought it would be easier to carry.
Consider where you will be writing before you buy one.I'm going to purchase the smaller one, too, for small foot-print travels (hiking and such). I regularly have a desk or table in front of me when writing so it's not a big deal for me. They aren't invincible, so if you crack the spine or consistently bend the pages back behind the book you may not be so pleased long-term. I also plan on a hard-cover for travel/journal action. It will handle regular writing, opening, closing, flipping through pages frantically as you try to scribble down your thoughts. I bought the lined soft back because, frankly, I suck at writing in a straight line w/out the ruled paper.I am NOT disappointed at all.
It's durable, this particular one has a GREAT binding, and the size is great for daily toting.Re: the binding; make sure that you take care of your Moleskine. It is only a minor issue when trying to write in bed. I love my first Moleskine. all of that good stuff ;)Yes, the soft cover is a bit tough to write on if you don't have a stiff surface underneath the thinner side. I swear it makes personal writing 'fun' again for me. It goes everywhere with me in my pack for instant lyric scribbling.
Treat it like a normal book that you'd care for long-term, not just another spiral bound notebook for school notes.
The hardcover's good for adventure-writing durability, but come on - you know you're just using it in a coffee shop anyway. Love Moleskines. I prefer the soft cover for more of a broken-in feel, easier to stick a pen in between the pages and carry it around.
I was concerned that they switched but that is not the case. But I write on my lap and it's just not stiff enough for that. Maybe I should make some chipboard stiffeners at least to get me through this journal. I've been using Moleskins for a while now and have a dozen or so. I hope the store I went to, B&N, will have the option to get the hardcover again since I usually wait until the last minute to get a replacement. I got it and am disappointed. I needed one and went to a local store and all I could find was the softcover. I do love the feel of the soft cover and the quality is as good as ever.
